This book focuses on childbirth in a holistic manner, covering topics ranging from herbal treatments, homebirth, nutrition, exercises, breathing techniques, the role of a midwife/birth attendant and delivering your own baby.
It's main theme is birth experienced at home and how to prepare your home and your lives for the special event.
The process of birth is presented in varying ways; through narratives by parents, colour photographs of unique birth experiences and stories of the birth process from many different angles.
This book is different than the usual birth preparation books on the market because it also focuses on the woman's power and the spiritual aspects of this rite of passage.
The art throughout this book is moving and reflects the significance of the spiritual side of birth - done by Teresa Roberge. We are pleased to have this fine artist contributing to the emotional and spiritual expression of childbirth through her art.
The author is a registered nurse and was a midwife for twenty seven years. She is well versed in childbirth preparation and knowledge gained through years of experience. She writes in both technical and prose, making this a very well rounded book as an educational resource and as a piece of art.

Childbirth Consulting Services

Life Passages Publishing has expanded its interests to include Childbirth Consulting Services. We feel that to live up to our name as life passages we must contribute to the community by teaching and sharing childbirth information and experience, we can do that by providing local childbirth preparation classes, in-home classes and discussion, and doula services to lower Vancouver Island, BC. Please feel free to browse more of our web site. I would like to add some of the course information to help you during your pregnancy although the excerpt from the book section has a lot of very useful information.
